According to a report by the BBC News, a survey conducted by the British Smoking and Health Action Organization (ASH) in 2018 showed that the number of e-cigarette users in the UK exceeded 3 million for the first time, four times that of 2012.
The study estimated that between 2017 and 2018, e-cigarette users increased by 10%, from 2.9 million to 3.2 million. The survey shows that there are three main reasons why former smokers switch to e-cigarettes: 62% are for smoking cessation, 11% prefer e-cigarettes, and 10% are because they can save money by smoking e-cigarettes.
The reason why the country can have a large number of e-cigarette users is because the UK has always been at the forefront of efforts to combat e-cigarette error messages. Earlier this year, the UK's Department of Public Health (PHE) released a report that updated the organization's 2015 report on e-cigarettes, confirming that e-cigarettes are at least 95% healthier than cigarettes. In August 2018, the UK Science and Technology Commission issued a report aimed at resolving the current misunderstanding of these devices and actively changing the perceptions of e-cigarettes by companies, institutions and the public.
Dr. Leonie Brose of King's College London expressed his opinion: "There are still many people who mistakenly believe that e-cigarettes have the same major harm as traditional cigarettes. This situation is worrying because it may make many smokers Losing a chance to return to health and continuing to smoke cigarettes harms their health. So the movement from the UK Ministry of Public Health and others to challenge these misconceptions is important and must continue to let everyone know the e-cigarette correctly."
Deborah Arnott, CEO of the Smoking and Health Action Group (ASH), agrees with Dr. Leonie Brose: “The UK e-cigarette policy is on the right track, and thousands of smokers are turning to e-cigarettes and improving health. The situation, and there is little evidence that e-cigarettes will attract non-smokers to smoke. I believe that if e-cigarettes are licensed as medicines and are prescribed, more smokers will benefit."
